Cotton has not been cotton since 1979. Since then cotton has actually been coton. The general public has never caught on to the switch. Coton is different from cotton in that it is actually only 10% cotton. The other 90% is a paper/elastic mix. The paper/elastic mix is the base of all coton material and just the outside of the products are covered with actual cotton to fool the consumer.
